CHARACTER ANALYSIS
Who was Neil Armstrong? If you search for him on Google, you would probability find “Courageous”, “Pioneering” and “Brillant”. However, before talking about what he has done is important to talk about his life and how he arrived on the moon. He was born in Ohio, he developed a passion for flying early in life, earning his pilot’s license at just sixteen (Wilford). He studied aerospace engineering at Purdue University (1). Afterward, Armstrong joined NASA’s predecessor, NACA, as a test pilot, flying experimental aircraft. Already here we can see the courage of this man, the color to be a pioneer (1). He was selected as an astronaut by NASA. Neil Armstrong was an American astronaut and the first man to supposedly walk on the moon, with the Apollo 11 mission in 1969 (1). However, he is the main and probably the most important character in the conspiracy theory the moon landing was faked. The astronaut has gone where nobody before him had; he is the symbol of human achievement. The American hero is remembered not just as the first human to walk on the Moon but as a symbol of immense bravery. His actions during the Apollo 11 mission in 1969 were both physical and psychological courage.
Armstrong’s bravery, the characteristic of man is also more relevant if we think about the period when he lived in a world where for the first time used a machine to decide routes to travel, hundreds of people had to work day and night to permit the space shuttle to fly and came back, everything was uncertain, “The calculation was made by its architecting team, assuming all elements from propulsion to rendezvous and life support were done as well or better than ever before, that 30 astronauts would be lost before 3 were returned safely to the Earth” (NASA Technical Reports). His calm response to technical challenges during the lunar landing, and his composure as a global symbol of human achievement.
Armstrong is considered a spirit of pioneering. From his early days to becoming one of the first astronauts chosen by NASA(“A True Pioneer”). His lunar landing was the culmination of years of pushing the boundaries of what was possible in both aviation and space exploration. One of the most famous phrases said by the astronaut during the Apollo 11 mission was: "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind (“Apollo 11 Mission Overview”).
Neil Armstrong’s brilliance is not only reflected in aerospace but also in his ability to think quickly and effectively in high-pressure situations. Before becoming an astronaut, Armstrong earned a degree in aeronautical engineering, and later, a master’s degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Southern California (Wilford). His knowledge and expertise were key when, during the Apollo 11 mission, he manually took control of the Lunar Module to avoid a dangerous landing site, demonstrating his calm problem-solving ability under extreme stress.
In addition to his technical skills, the astronaut leadership was instrumental in leading humanity to one of its greatest achievements, the first manned moon landing (Apollo 11 Mission Overview). His calm demonstrated during the Apollo 11 mission's final descent, when alarms went off, underscored his exceptional composure (1). Armstrong’s role was not limited to astronautics; he made significant contributions to the design and testing of spacecraft, showcasing his deep understanding of aerospace technology (1). Armstrong was a skilled astronaut and a pioneering engineer whose leadership and achievements changed the course of human history.
